Beryl Allen, 66, from Leicester, who has arthritis and osteoporosis, was left housebound by the theft. The new vehicle, found burnt out in a park, was not insured. Other scooters were also offered to Mrs Allen.
The original four-wheeled scooter was kept in the garden of Mrs Allen's home in the Goodwood area of Leicester. But the vehicle was taken before the delivery of a shed intended to house it. Two days later friends found it burnt out in a nearby park. The new vehicle was donated by a widow who asked not to be named. Mrs Allen said: "It's absolutely gorgeous. It's out of this world. "I would like to say thank you to the woman and give her a big hug." Three other scooters were offered and these will be donated to good causes. | See also: 02 Sep 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
