Men in Skegness would rather eat chips than strut their stuff on the beach, according to a women's magazine.

Searching for Britain's sexiest beach, More magazine rated Lincolnshire's Skegness just two marks out of five on its so-called "sizzleometer".

The magazine's deputy features editor, Rob Mansfield, said 11 beach resorts were rated.

However, he conceded Skegness may have been hampered by cloudy weather on the day it was evaluated.

"Nobody seemed to be about that day... nobody seemed to be interested in showing off their sexy bodies.

"We managed to catch all the shy ones out the day that we were there."

The magazine accuses the men of "Skeggy" of eating too many chips and being preoccupied with the arcades.

"There's nothing wrong with eating chips and stuff, but our readers are keen on seeing a nice pair of pecs... and when you are in the arcades you are not really interested in that."

Skegness is Britain's fifth most visited holiday resort, attracting millions of people every year.

Only Margate, in Kent, rated lower on the "sizzleometer", scoring just one mark out of five.
