An ambulance driver who lost an eye when a lump of concrete was thrown through his windscreen has driven again for the first time since the attack.

Nick Horobin vowed to return to work after he received severe injuries last September.

He suffered serious head injuries and lost an eye when his ambulance overturned after the crash at Shirley Hollow on the A52 in Derbyshire.

Now, after getting behind the wheel again for the first time since the crash, he is hoping to return to the ambulance service soon.

Mr Horobin has driven once again

Mr Horobin told BBC East Midlands Today: "There have been times when I thought I couldn't do it.

"But I have had a lot of people around, particularly my partner and my family."

His horrific injuries led to widespread condemnation of the attack and ambulance workers have campaigned to make their jobs safer.

But the people who threw the rock at the ambulance have not been found.

Mr Horobin said: "Life's too short. I have got to get on with my life and carry on now.

"I'm just putting it to the back of my mind now and forgetting about whoever it was who did it.

"I have got to concentrate on getting better."

Mr Horobin hopes to be back at work later this year.
