Golfer tees off 486 hole charity bid

Ian Rumbold is raising money for cancer research
A golfer aims to raise 20,000 for charity by playing 486 holes on 32 courses in 10 days.

Ian Rumbold, 52, from Orwell, near Cambridge, started his money-raising drive for Cancer Research UK on Wednesday.

Mr Rumbold's motivation for the bid came after losing three friends and the captain of his golf club to cancer.

He aims to play golf at 28 clubs and hopes to beat his cash target.

Things do still seem a little bit daunting

Mr Rumbold said 19,500 has already been banked and pledged by his supporters.

He is due to play 486 holes in Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Essex and Hertfordshire, at both nine and 18-hole courses.

The father-of-two, who runs a heating and plumbing company, said: "Things do still seem a little bit daunting.

"I think days five to seven will be hardest."

The golfing challenge started at St Ives, Cambridgeshire, and it is due to finish at Mr Rumbold's own club in Royston, Hertfordshire, where he will hold a fund-raising party.
