Police believe a father-of-three who died at a Teesside nightclub could have taken ecstasy.

Cleveland Police are treating the death of the un-named man in his 40s, as suspicious.

The man, from Durham, collapsed at Club M at the Tall Trees hotel in Yarm in the early hours of Sunday, but later died in hospital.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said two people had been arrested in connection with the incident, one of whom has been released on police bail.

The man was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, but died despite attempts to resuscitate him.

Police say two men aged 25 and 18 had been arrested on suspicion of possession drugs with intent to supply.

The police spokesman said: "At 0038 BST on Sunday a 44-year-old male from the Durham area collapsed in the Tall Trees nightclub in Yarm.

Forensic tests

"An ambulance crew and police attended the scene and the man was taken to University Hospital of North Tees where he later died.

"A man was interviewed and released on police bail pending forensic and toxicology tests to determine the cause of death."

A spokesman for the Tall Trees said the club was cooperating with police inquiries.

He added that the incident happed only 15 minutes after the man entered the club.
