| Wednesday, 17 July, 2002, 10:10 GMT 11:10 UK Lowry home unsold again ![]() Lowry painted in an attic The former home of artist LS Lowry in Greater Manchester has failed to sell at auction for the second time. Its owner, Brian Roberts, said he was "disappointed" that the Salford property failed to sell, after the reserve price was halved to 100,000. The home was withdrawn from sale at Bridgeford's Auction in London last week after bids did not reach the 200,000 asking price. On Tuesday, the house failed to sell at auction in Liverpool's Haydock Park.
Lowry, famous for his industrial matchstick men paintings, lived in 117, Station Road, from 1908 to 1948. But auctioneer Mark Tanton said the property had attracted little interest at the auction and its owners would now try and find a buyer. He added the six-bedroomed house would be put on the market at a "much more realistic" price of around 100,000. A spokesman for the owner said buyers could now get the property at market value but with the "added stamp of the Lowry heritage attached to it". If a buyer is not found, the property may be put up for auction again at Haydock Park on 13 September. Mr Roberts hopes the eventual buyer will turn the house into a visitor centre. | See also: 16 Jul 02 | England 11 Jul 02 | Entertainment 11 Jan 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
