| Monday, 24 June, 2002, 20:29 GMT 21:29 UK Snooker star 'raped girl at the Savoy' Quinten Hann denies rape A student has told a court how a snooker player took her to his Savoy Hotel apartment and raped her. The 21-year-old told the jury at the Old Bailey that Australian-born Quinten Hann forced himself on her after they drank and danced at a nightclub. Mr Hann, 25, who now lives with his family in Hyde Park, central London, denies raping the South African in October 2001. The woman said the snooker player, who is the world's number 14, stripped naked and pinned her down on the couch as she told him: "No, I don't want to do this."
Giving evidence on Monday, the woman said she met Mr Hann in a nightclub, where they danced and briefly kissed. "He was very tactile with me and I felt almost as if I couldn't breathe. It was too fast. He kept holding my waist and hand, and I felt uneasy." The woman, who was out with her flatmate, then agreed to return to Mr Hann's hotel with his friend Darren. 'Shocked and angry' At Mr Hann's rented apartment on the Strand, the woman's friend and Darren disappeared to a bedroom. She said: "Quinten grabbed my arm and pulled me into the chair with him. "I said to him 'I've got a boyfriend and I shouldn't be here'. "He was kissing me but I kept moving. "Eventually I said 'I don't want to do this'. "I said 'I won't sleep with you tonight if you're wondering'." The woman told the court Mr Hann then raped her. Phone information Under cross-examination, Sir Ivan Lawrence QC, who is representing Mr Hann with his daughter, Rachel Lawrence, said: "You have painted a picture of yourself as the totally reluctant young lady, have you not?" She replied: "Reluctant to have sex, yes." But she admitted she had previously picked up a man from the same nightclub. About a year before the alleged rape, she had a one-night stand with someone in "revenge" because her boyfriend had been unfaithful, Sir Ivan said, and she agreed. The woman later admitted she had given Mr Hann a goodbye "peck" on the cheek. She had also programmed her name and phone number into his mobile, without giving false information, and agreed to meet him for lunch the next day. On the way, Mr Hann phoned her and they had a four-minute, 11-second conversation. She explained her actions: "I just wanted to get out, to get home. He seemed aggressive and volatile, and I just wanted to get out of that room. I would have done anything."
