Robin Hedges who was allegedly involved in the incident with Mr Livingstone has told police he did not want to make a complaint. A London Evening Standard article had accused the Mayor of assaulting a 35-year-old man at a party and then fleeing before the police arrived. Mr Livingstone strongly denied the claims but has agreed to answer questions at the London Assembly about the alleged incident. The London Assembly had requested a special meeting with the Mayor this week and Mr Livingstone confirmed he would attend on Wednesday at 1000 BST. A Scotland Yard spokesman said detectives had spoken with Mr Hedges and confirmed he "did not wish to make a criminal allegation". Mr Livingstone said he would not sue the paper despite calling the articles "inaccurate and distorted". | See also: 21 Jun 02 | England 20 Jun 02 | England 27 Mar 02 | England 14 Mar 02 | UK Politics Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
