| Thursday, 30 May, 2002, 09:55 GMT 10:55 UK 'Barmy' anti-jubilee poster The ad was secretly put up at Temple Meads A group calling itself Bristolians Against the Rapacious Monarchy (Barmy) has pasted up a huge anti-Jubilee billboard in the city. Barmy say the piece of Andy Warhol-style 'public art' was secretly installed at Temple Meads railway station on Wednesday. A spokesman said it was designed to "amuse people and provoke a reaction". The billboard also carries the message, '50 greedy years'. Website image Barmy said the aim was to highlight its claim that the monarchy "costs the public more than the royal families of the rest of Europe combined". The piece also contains a stark image of a guillotine next to the words: 'a better world is possible". David Pugh, managing director of Maiden Outdoor Advertising which owns the billboard, said: "We will be visiting the site and replacing the advert late tonight or first thing tomorrow." An image of the Queen has been downloaded from the Buckingham Palace website and then doctored to add Marilyn Monroe's eyebrows before being printed on 100 separate pieces of A4 paper. Each piece was then stuck to a prominent hoarding at the station to catch the eyes of passengers. The 10ft by 24ft billboard should be showing an advert for deodorant. | See also: 24 Apr 01 | UK 05 Jul 00 | Asia-Pacific 19 Apr 00 | Entertainment 21 Jan 00 | e-cyclopedia Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
