A climber who suffered serious head injuries when he fell 100 feet down a mountain in Skye has died in hospital.

Londoner Kevin Breslin, 32, was airlifted off Sgurr nan Gillean on the Isle of Skye on Sunday and flown to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow, where he later died.

Mr Breslin, from Edward Road, Walthamstow, was with a companion when the accident happened.

Skye Mountain Rescue Team and a search and rescue helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth were called to the scene at about 1140 BST on Sunday.

The accident was one of three mountain rescues on Scottish mountains over the weekend.

A hillwalker suffered a suspected broken leg after a fall in Sutherland.

Stornoway Coastguard was called to the hillside near Oldshoremore in Kinlochbervie and carried out the rescue at about 1715 BST.

The 60-year-old woman was flown to a waiting ambulance and taken to Raigmore Hospital.

Another woman climbing Spidean a'Choire Leith in Torridon, Ross-shire, suffered an ankle injury after a fall.

Torridon Mountain Rescue Team and the RAF helicopter from Lossiemouth attended on Saturday.

The woman and her companion were airlifted off the mountain and flown to Raigmore Hospital.
