| Thursday, 2 May, 2002, 10:30 GMT 11:30 UK Man dies after hit and run crash ![]() The occupants of the car fled after the crash A pensioner has died and a woman has been injured in a crash at a bus stop on Tyneside. Police say a car lost control and mounted the pavement. The occupants fled after the crash. James Mulligan, 73, received fatal injuries. An 84-year-old woman who was waiting at the bus stop in Albion Street, Gateshead, was also hurt. Police are appealing for anyone who saw the incident at 1240 BST on May 1 to come forward. 'Fled scene' A spopkesman for Northumbria Police said: "The car... hit a concrete post at the stop before hitting the two pedestrians. "The occupants fled the scene and Mr Mulligan later died of his injuries. "The woman received minor injuries.
