Police investigating the disappearance of a 12-year-old girl from north-west London are widening their search.

Holly Byrne was last seen at 1700 BST on Monday in a newsagents near her home in Cricklewood.

Police believe she may have run away with her mother's former boyfriend Michael Delaney.

They are studying CCTV footage of the area where she was last seen and conducting door-to-door inquiries.

Letters found

Holly is considered as very vulnerable with learning difficulties and she has been attending a special centre to help her.

She was with her mother Tara Byrne buying sweets and disappeared when her back was turned.

Police say they found letters between Holly and 23-year-old Michael Delaney in her bedroom.

Mr Delaney had been Mrs Byrne's boyfriend for two months until they broke up two weeks ago.

Police have described him as a heavy drinker whose behaviour can be unpredictable.

Mr Delaney was last seen at his family address in the St John's Wood area during the early afternoon of Monday and has not been seen since.

He has no car and is believed to be carrying less than 70.

Detectives believe he may have been planning to travel to Wales and say he also has contacts in Ireland.

They say they are very worried for Holly's safety.

On Tuesday, Tara Byrne appealed at a police news conference for her daughter to return home.
