Canals meet tidal waters at Gloucester Docks
Plans for a 200m redevelopment of historic Gloucester Docks have gone on public view.

It is the latest of a series of attempts to regenerate the 60-acre site and "re-launch" the city.

Developers - including British Waterways - claim the shopping and leisure complex will create more than 2,000 jobs and attract three million people a year.

The proposals include designer shops, a hotel and 1,000 homes.

The proposals cover 60 acres of the city
British Waterways and the development company Peel Holdings have been working on the idea with Gloucester City Council since 1999.

The 200-year-old docks are already home to antique centres and the National Waterways Museum.

But they lost the Robert Opie museum of packaging last year.

The development would preserve the 14 listed buildings in the docks - mostly towering warehouses that have been used as film backdrops.

A new bridge is planned to help solve the city's traffic problems.

A new campus for Gloscat further education college is proposed for the grounds of Llanthony Priory, on the waterside.
