ecstasy
The dead man is thought to have taken the drug before
A 23-year-old man has died after apparently taking ecstasy at a Birmingham nightclub.

The man collapsed at 0400 GMT on Saturday at "Premonition" in Bristol Street.

The man, who is believed to be from the Small Heath area of the city, was pronounced dead at the City Hospital.

Once again the tragic loss of life shows the dangers that can be associated with the use of ecstasy

Detective Inspector Gary Campbell

West Midlands Police said the death should serve as a warning to others.

Detective Inspector Gary Campbell said: "There is a danger the use of ecstasy is being seen as acceptable and not having danger associated.

"Once again the tragic loss of life shows the dangers that can be associated with the use of ecstasy.

'Low risk'

"We believe this man had previously taken ecstasy with no adverse effect.

"If people take drugs, they do not know what the result is going to be and all too often the result is death."

Birmingham's drug education co-ordinator, said the risk from drugs should not be exaggerated.

Tony Ayers told BBC WM although the risk was low, it was still not worth taking.
