 | | Wednesday, 20 March, 2002, 10:26 GMT Triplets, 83, claim world record  The Thomas triplets hope to enter the records book A brother and two sisters in Devon are celebrating their 83th birthday - after learning they may be the world's oldest surviving set of triplets. The Thomas triplets were born in Paignton on 20 March, 1919. They are 14 months older than the current official record holders, the Scott triplets, from Edinburgh. The Devon trio only discovered their status when Maurice Thomas's son was flicking through the Guinness Book of Records in a shop.
Mr Thomas said: "We telephoned the Guinness Book of Records and they were very surprised. "Now they have sent us all the official forms and asked us to provide copies of our birth certificates to update the next edition of the Guinness Book of Records." The three celebrated their birthday together at a residential home in Totnes, south Devon, where youngest sister Daphne Chittenden now lives. The eldest of the three, Moira Hubber of Ivybridge, said: "We all get together on our birthday. Checking claim "We have always done so - we are very close." A spokesman for the Guinness Book of Records said: "It does appear that the Thomas triplets do beat the current world record. "The family have contacted us and this will now go through a number of verification stages. "Obviously we are very interested and are looking forward to hearing back from the Thomas triplets."
