New Street Station in Birmingham was evacuated for several hours on Tuesday after police found what they thought was a suspect package on a train. It was not until they questioned passengers on the same train the following day that they traced the mystery device to 15-year-old Christian King. The package was an electronic foot pedal for a guitar made as part of his Design and Technology GCSE coursework.
"I'd like to say I'm very sorry for causing the trouble that I did," the Hereford Cathedral School pupil told the BBC. "It was a terrible accident and I'm really sorry." Police have confirmed they are treating Christian's forgetfulness as an honest mistake, and will be taking no further action against him. But a further problem remains for the schoolboy. His teachers are now consulting the examination board on how to grade the project since its destruction in a controlled explosion. | Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||
