| Thursday, 7 March, 2002, 21:26 GMT Asylum pair attempt suicide ![]() The men were moved after the Yarl's Wood fire Two asylum seekers transferred to a prison after the fire at Yarl's Wood detention centre have tried to hang themselves. They are among a small number of men being held without charge at Norwich Prison in Norfolk. The transfers follow the fire which destroyed half the Bedfordshire centre on 14 February. Deputy prison governor Michael Wood said: "I can confirm that two of the detainees have attempted suicide."
"They have used that as a negotiation tool or have tried to. "One in particular said: 'I will kill myself if I'm not taken out of this place'." A Home Office statement said: "We do not comment on individuals. "We have a duty of care to everyone housed in prison.
