| Monday, 18 February, 2002, 19:36 GMT Villagers warned of toxic fumes ![]() Police feared that villagers would be affected by smoke Villagers have been warned by police about the dangers of toxic fumes from a fire at a Norfolk chicken factory. More than 100 firefighters were involved in tackling the fire, near Wymondham outside Norwich on Monday. The fire broke out in the refrigeration and loading bay area of the site on Old Buckenham Road in the village of Carlton Rode. The factory has been undergoing renovations but it is thought there was no risk to workers or poultry.
"Because of the problem of cylinders that are involved in the fire we've had a few minor explosions already," said Mr Joy. "It is too dangerous to get too close to find out but I would suggest the building is fairly badly damaged. "There is no immediate danger to anyone living nearby. "The police have issued a caution to people in the nearby villages, if they are affected by the smoke, to keep windows and doors closed," he said. | Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||
