The former head of Middlesbrough CID, Ray Mallon has arrived for a second day of his disciplinary hearing.

Superintendent Mallon, 46, admitted 14 disciplinary charges on Tuesday evening, the day before the hearing was due to start.

The charges stem from Operation Lancet which investigated alleged wrongdoing in Cleveland Police.

As he arrived at the force's headquarters in Middlesbrough on Thursday, Mr Mallon, whose tough policing earned him the nickname Robocop, said: "I don't think it will be resolved today."

'Extremely frustrating'

He said he is looking forward to telling the public his version of events after the hearing.

Mr Mallon said: "It's extremely frustrating when I can't tell the public my side of the story.

"I'm not happy that this is dragging on. While these proceedings are ongoing I can't say anything. The quicker it is completed the better."

Mr Mallon intends to stand for Mayor of Middlesbrough on 2 May and had the disciplinary proceedings against him dragged on he would have been unable to do so as a serving police officer.

He faces nine counts of neglect of duty, three of falsehoods or prevarication, one of discreditable conduct and one of misconduct towards a force member.
