A 24-year-old man from Cornwall has been found dead at Exeter Prison.

The Home Office said Michael Scott Williams was found hanging from the window of his cell on Tuesday.

A prison nurse attended straight away, but Williams, from the Truro area, was pronounced dead at 0655 GMT.

He had been convicted at Truro Crown Court of burglary and taken into custody at Exeter on 9 January.

The coroner had been informed and an inquest would be held, the Home Office spokesman said.
