| Thursday, 17 January, 2002, 16:19 GMT TV designer's windows 'unacceptable' ![]() Port Issac contains traditional Cornish cottages The television taste and design guru Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen has been ordered to remove "unacceptable" windows from his Cornish cottage. North Cornwall District Council was prompted to take enforcement action against the presenter of the BBC programme Changing Rooms after he installed roof windows at his home in Port Isaac. Planning councillors decided the windows were an unacceptable, incongruous feature affecting the appearance of the cottage. Mr Llewellyn-Bowen, whose grade two listed building is part of a conservation area within the picturesque fishing village, advises people on home refurbishment.
He said: "There have been some pretty awful things done there [Port Isaac] in the past. "The last thing we want is to be thought of as having contributed further to that situation." The television designer's application for listed building consent to retain the windows at his Fore Street property was rejected. He and his wife Jackie have six months to appeal against the enforcement action. The former art student said they had carried out their work after taking advice, and installed the flush-fitting conservation-grade windows in order to bring light to their living room. Claire Richmond, the series producer of his BBC2 programme, told BBC News Online: "It is not for me to offer an opinion, what Lawrence does with his windows is up to him." | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||
