Sophie visits nursery with Edward
Countess Sophie Wessex
The Countess met staff and children at the nursery
The Countess of Wessex joined her husband Prince Edward on a public engagement in Norfolk on Friday, her first since her ectopic pregnancy last month.

Sophie and Edward spent nearly an hour chatting with children as the couple officially opened a refurbished nursery school in Terrington St Clement near King's Lynn.

Prince Edward unveiled a plaque commemorating the 90,000 refit at the Phoenix Montessori Nursery School.

They also met staff during the visit and looked at samples of the children's work.

'Absolutely radiant'

Carole King, a parent-helper at the school, said: "I thought she did extremely well."

"It must have been extremely difficult for her."

Staff at the school praised her courage and said how natural she appeared with the children.

It was her first public appearance since the treatment for an ectopic pregnancy on 7 December.

Sophie spent three days at the King Edward VII Hospital, in central London following two-and-a-half hours of surgery.

The visit had been arranged before the Countess lost her baby and school owner Clare Harris assumed that the engagement would be cancelled.

"We only got confirmation that the visit was on two days ago. We were delighted."

Mrs Harris added: "The Countess looked absolutely radiant."

"She was very good with the children. She sat and talked to them for a long time."

Sophie and Edward were given a collage made by the children which showed a king and a queen and a castle.
