| Saturday, 5 January, 2002, 13:03 GMT Man dies after leaping from fire ![]() Fireman found a man injured outside the burning house A man has died overnight after leaping from the window of a burning house in Leicester. A woman was killed in the same fire, police said on Saturday. The man smashed through the bedroom window of the house in Thurlby Road, Leicester, and jumped out. Three fire crews arrived to find the man seriously injured on the pavement outside the terraced house on Friday afternoon.
The man died from his injuries in hospital. An eyewitness said he heard shouts for help at about 1300 GMT. The man, who did not want to be named, said he saw that the curtains in the upstairs room were on fire and then saw a window being smashed. He said: "Someone was smashing through the window and then they jumped out on to the pavement. "There were flames everywhere."
