Wooden beach hut sold for 120,000
The chalet
A 120,000 des res with a difference
A wooden beach hut in Dorset has sold for 120,000 fetching more than double its asking price.

The pre-war chalet, which has spectacular views over Chesil Beach at West Bexington, was last sold in 1944 for 90.

It boasts two bedrooms, a small sitting room, kitchen, shower room, a telephone line and electric heating.

Although it can be lived in all year round, the new owners, Gwyn and Ros Llewelyn say they will use it as a holiday home.

I'm sure the taxman will love me

Denise Cochrane, former owner
The agents decided to hold a private auction because of the strong interest in the hut which is one of 14 built in 1934.

There had been 23 offers for the chalet and 13 bidders attended the auction.

Giving a familiar line from estate agents, Beth James, of Symonds and Sampson, said the price was down to location.

World site

"It is absolutely idyllic. These are the best beach huts around. They must be.

"It proves that somebody will pay whatever for what they want. It takes it out of market value."

Beach on Jurassic Coast
The nearby coastline is a world important site
The hut is on a stretch of coastline recently designated a World Heritage Site which will be called the Jurassic Coast.

Former owner Denise Cochrane, of Thatcham, Berkshire, told BBC News Online the final price of the chalet was "hilarious to say the least".

"I'm sure the taxman will love me."

She has been visiting the hut since her father bought it more than 50 years ago.

"It has been part of our lives and it is the end of an era.

"The gentleman who bought it has got the same feelings for West Bexington as we have.

"The chalet is very, very comfortable, looks straight over the sea, it is absolutely superb."
