Strays go in 'Dogmobile' to find homes
NCDL Dogmobile
Last year 8,000 dogs were rescued by the NCDL
Rescue dogs are on show to the public in a unique mobile rehoming unit.

The National Canine Defence League (NCDL) has launched its Dogmobile, a seven and a half tonne lorry fitted with luxury kennels.

It is designed to tour Britain carrying a selection of strays and abandoned dogs from the NCDL who are looking for a home.

The first stop is Trafalgar Square where six rescue dogs will meet and greet the people of London along with Labour MP Tony Banks who will be helping out.

The aim is to rehome more dogs than ever by taking them to people who are unable to travel to one of the NCDL's 16 centres nationwide.

On board the 90,000 vehicle videos will be shown of other dogs in need of homes.

If someone spots a dog they like the NCDL will carry out checks to ensure the dog is going to a good home.

Staff from a local rehoming centre will visit the new owners to confirm they are suitable.

Dogs checked

No dogs will be rehomed directly from the Dogmobile.

Former trucker Catherine Walters, who has two rescue dogs, will be driving the vehicle from town to town.

The NCDL also provides post adoption advice and and all its dogs are checked by a vet, vaccinated, neutered and microchipped before being rehomed.

Last year the NCDL rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed more than 8,000 dogs.
