Newham buildings an 'eyesore'
BT Building, Newham
This building was considered an eyesore before renovation
There are 230 eyesores on east London's architectural landscape according to the people who live there.

Residents in Newham were asked to find the area's most derelict and unsightly buildings which could be renovated or put into use by Newham Council.

Newham Council ran the survey as part of a project aimed at making the borough a better place to live and work.

It was the third year residents had been asked to nominate their worst eyesores.

For the first time this year they were also able to put forward their favourite features. More than 100 sites and properties in Newham were nominated as "little gems" by local residents.

Councillor John Saunders, the council's lead member on the environment, was in charge of the consultation.

He said: "In a built-up area like Newham, there are obviously grotty parts of the borough that need improving.

"But there are also excellent spots that are a beauty to behold and which people have put much time and effort into improving."
