Jackson's Chippy in Market Street, Ilkeston, is marking its birthday on Wednesday by charging people one shilling and sixpence for fish and chips - the equivalent of eight pence in today's money. All money raised will go to Ilkeston Community Hospital. Dennis Jackson, the shop's owner, told BBC Radio Nottingham: "Being on the street for 40 years, I have had a good living out of the game and made a lot of friends. 'Generous people' "I thought it would be good to put something back into the community by putting the prices back to the 1960s and at the same time raise money for the hospital. "Knowing the people of Ilkeston like I do, they will be very generous." Mr Jackson added that he had enjoyed his 40 years as a chip shop owner. He said: "This job has been good fun. I can't knock it. "If anyone had told me I would stick it for 40 years, I would not have come. But if you have had as much fun as I have, you stick with it." | See also: Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||
