| Friday, 28 September, 2001, 10:06 GMT 11:06 UK Seven treated after chemical spill ![]() Seven people, including five police officers, have been taken to hospital after a chemical spill caused by two lorries colliding in Oxfordshire. They were treated for fume inhalation and minor burns. The lorries collided on the southbound carriageway of the A34 near Kidlington at 0330 BST. A Leyland DAF lorry was putting cones onto the road when a Mercedes Arctic lorry, carrying about 400 litres of acid and alkaline, collided with it.
Divisional officer David Etheridge, from Oxfordshire Fire Service, said: "The chemical has been contained and various measures have been taken to ensure that the environmental damage has been minimised." Fire crews, investigators and environmental protection officers are at the scene. The carriageways in both directions have been reopened, but police are warning that there are major tailbacks.
