Bristol's skipper, Bob Beggs, will be presented with a 10,000 Waterford crystal trophy depicting the clipper yachts. Eight yachts, each named after a place in the British Isles, set out on the race in October 2000. The contest has been keenly fought, with the Bristol and Jersey boats jockeying for pole position during the 35,000-mile (56,327 kilometres) voyage. The race was expected to finish on Friday but light winds in the north Atlantic resulted in slow progress for the fleet and a delay to the finishing time by five days. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
