 | | Tuesday, 25 September, 2001, 16:37 GMT 17:37 UK Sale takes the Titanic biscuit  The biscuit was taken before the Titanic sailed in 1912 A biscuit taken from the Titanic as a souvenir before her ill-fated maiden voyage has fetched �3,525 at auction. The 89-year-old biscuit, which is impressed with an image of the liner, was sold at Sotheby's in London. It was described in the catalogue as "an extremely rare biscuit" which is in "almost perfect condition with signs of moulding". Also among the lots were a launch ticket from the voyage, which went for �6,815, and a restaurant order pad sold for �14,100.
The biscuit was passed down through his family. John Baddeley, Sotheby's auctioneer, said: "It is impossible to know what this will sell for. "We have sold many Titanic pieces and certainly something like this is quite exciting. It is rare that it has been kept. "I wouldn't recommend eating it, but it has been preserved well in an airtight tin and therefore it is in a good condition."
