Thousands of pupils were off school last week because of the snow |
The deadline for UK university applications has been extended by a week because of the adverse weather, the admissions service Ucas has said. Pupils in around 8,500 UK schools were affected by closures last week as bad weather swept across the country. The original deadline for applications was Friday, January 15. This has now been extended to Friday 22 January. In a statement Ucas urged all students to submit their applications by the original deadline where possible. "Due to the current severe weather conditions affecting the majority of the UK, Ucas has decided to extend its January deadline for applications for higher education courses by seven days," the statement said. "Schools, colleges and applicants who are able to, should still submit their applications by 15 January. "For those who have been affected by closures and the bad weather, a later deadline of 22 January is available."
