A television advert which claims that becoming a teacher is "better than any anti-ageing cream" has been cleared of misleading viewers. Fifteen people had complained that the English Teacher Training Agency's commercial had failed to reflect the stress involved in doing the job.
But the Advertising Standards Authority ruled there had been no suggestion that teaching was an easy profession.
The advert had shown that working with young people could be "rewarding".
'Use your head'
This was the case despite pupils' "faults", the ruling added.
The TTA's 12m campaign - featuring the slogan "Use your head: teach" - began last September.
Adverts all depict real teachers and pupils in classrooms and were tested among existing staff and trainees before being aired.
According to TTA figures, the number of applications to study teaching by those eligible for courses has risen 13.5% so far this year, compared with the same period in 2004.
A spokeswoman said: "The TTA welcomes this decision.
"The adverts are a vital part of our campaign to recruit more people into teacher training, particularly in subjects like maths, sciences and languages."
