The college - the local secondary school - remains a crime scene for police investigating the murders of 10 year olds Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells. Its caretaker, Ian Huntley, has been charged with murdering the girls and is being held in Rampton secure hospital. Instead of going to the college, the 300 or so students were able to collect their exam results from Soham's library. Success It was closed to the public until Thursday afternoon.
The principal, Howard Gilbert, said: "While everyone's thoughts are clearly with the families of Jessica and Holly these excellent results have given pupils something to celebrate today. "It was lovely to see so many smiling faces and I would like to congratulate pupils, parents and staff on their hard work and achievements." A spokesman for the local education authority, Cambridgeshire County Council, said that whether the college would be able to open properly for the new term on Friday 6 September was still under discussion. The authority's contingency plan involves putting about 25 mobile classrooms on the playing field. | See also: 22 Aug 02 | England 20 Aug 02 | UK Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Education stories now: Links to more Education stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
