Mr Jakszta takes over from Lady Marie Stubbs, who came out of retirement to help turn around the school which had been temporarily closed following an outbreak of violence.

Currently head of Blessed John Roche school in Tower Hamlets, east London, Mr Jakszta acknowledged the hard work that had gone into bringing the school to its current position.

"And I look forward to taking the school ahead to the next phase of its development," he said.

Transformation

Chair of the education schools committee at Westminster Council, Tim Joiner, said the school's ethos had been transformed.

"Pupils are now willing and eager to learn, they value their ordered environment and the clear expectations they have been given.

"Teaching and learning is significantly improved and I'm confident that with Mr Jakszta's guidance, we will witness many more significant achievements at St George's," Mr Joiner said.
