| Wednesday, 9 May, 2001, 10:32 GMT 11:32 UK Troubled school appoints new head ![]() St George's school was closed a week before half-term A new head teacher has been appointed at the comprehensive school in west London, where former head Philip Lawrence was murdered six years ago. St George's School, Maida Vale - now cleared of its failing tag by the education watchdog, Ofsted - will be led by Philip Jakszta from September.
Currently head of Blessed John Roche school in Tower Hamlets, east London, Mr Jakszta acknowledged the hard work that had gone into bringing the school to its current position. "And I look forward to taking the school ahead to the next phase of its development," he said. Transformation Chair of the education schools committee at Westminster Council, Tim Joiner, said the school's ethos had been transformed. "Pupils are now willing and eager to learn, they value their ordered environment and the clear expectations they have been given. "Teaching and learning is significantly improved and I'm confident that with Mr Jakszta's guidance, we will witness many more significant achievements at St George's," Mr Joiner said. |
