Eight crews left Portsmouth Harbour at the start of the Clipper 2000 Round the World Yacht Race.
The eight identical 60ft yachts are each sponsored by UK towns and cities including Bristol, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Plymouth, Portsmouth and the island of Jersey.
The race, taking in Cuba, Hong Kong and the Philippines, is expected to last 11 months.
