Thousands of Royal Mail workers are taking part in the first nationwide postal strike in two years. About 40 workers armed with banners staged demonstrations at the front and back of Birmingham's main sorting office.
These men are pictured outside the Royal Mail's main sorting centre in Glasgow. The Communication Workers Union said 3,382 workers were on strike in Scotland, across mail centres in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Wishaw and Perth.

Postal workers have formed picket lines outside 37 mail centres in the UK - this is part of the protest taking place in Coventry.
A group of striking Post office workers formed a picket line outside the Nine Elm mail centre in south west London. Mail centre staff and drivers are striking on Thursday while delivery and collection staff will take action on Friday.
These Royal Mail workers went on strike from the Thames Valley Mail Centre in Swindon. The Federation of Small Businesses estimates that 70% of the 4.8 million small firms in the UK rely on the Royal Mail for their post.
