The BBC has been defending its decision to let the leader of the British National Party, Nick Griffin, appear on Question Time.
The corporation's Deputy Director General, Mark Byford, said the BBC had to allow the party to appear as part of its "responsibility of due impartiality".
However, the Equality and Human Rights commission says that the current BNP constitution is illegal because it bars membership on grounds of race and colour and so it should not be regarded as equivalent to other parties.
