BNP to continue using WWII imagery

The British National Party has vowed to continue using military images in its campaigns, despite condemnation from a number of former military commanders.

A letter signed by four retired generals says right wing extremists should not use photographs of Winston Churchill and images of the World War II Spitfire in promotional material.

The signatories backed a letter published by a new anti-BNP campaign group called Nothing British which is headed up by the Conservative Party's former chief-of-staff Tim Montgomerie.

Despite the criticism Nick Griffin, leader of the British National Party, told the BBC his party had every right to use the imagery.
