Audio slideshow: Recession Road

BBC News website photographer Phil Coomes and journalist Paula Dear spent four days driving up the A1 from London to Edinburgh and blogged the journey.

They talked to the people they met on the way about how they were faring in the recession - as part of the BBC's coverage of the anniversary of global downturn . It was also a photographic pilgrimage - following in the footsteps of documentary photographer Paul Graham, who covered the same route in the 1980s .

Photographed, produced and recorded by Phil Coomes and Paula Dear.
