Prosecutor Jonathan Laidlaw told the jury at Inner London Crown Court Mr Debruin wrote what looked like a macabre checklist for the killing on his Psion organiser which read: "Rubber gloves. Throat. Take telephone off hook. Purse out with contents spread about."

The Crown alleges Mr Debruin used a knife and a screwdriver to cut his wife's throat at the couple's four-bedroomed family home in Stanmore, north-west London.

'Frenzied attack'

Mr Laidlaw said Mrs Debruin complained that although her husband was working for a printing firm by day and selling double-glazing by night, she was still unhappy with his attitude to work.

Police found no evidence of a forced entry to the house in Dover Court Gardens after Mrs Debruin's mother had found her body.

Gary Debruin, who denies murder, was arrested 12 days later.

Prosecutor Jonathan Laidlaw told the court: "Just after his children left for school, this defendant launched a frenzied attack on his wife.

"Using at least two weapons - probably a knife and a Phillips screwdriver - he stabbed her over 100 times, predominantly to the head and torso - he also cut her throat."

Forensic evidence

Mr Laidlaw said when Mr Debruin was interviewed by officers he insisted he had not murdered his wife, but forensic scientists found her blood on his shoes and trousers.

He added: "Very recently the prosecution have made an important discovery and it concerns this defendant's hand-held computer.

"Amongst the files were a series of entries made by the defendant on 1 November last year - a month before the killing.

"Those entries suggest this defendant had formulated a plan to kill Belinda Debruin and had set out on his computer possible steps to be taken by him in order to avoid suspicion falling on him."
