New audit body to probe expenses

A new audit body for MPs' expenses is due to be ratified in Parliament on Monday, Labour MP Sir Stuart Bell has said.

Mr Bell, who sits on the House of Commons Commission, said the special audit unit would be hived off but independent of the fees office.

He also said he regrets the damage done to the public's confidence in the UK's system of government and its politicians.
