Prisons 'bursting at the seams'

Specialist prison officers have been tackling what they are describing as a riot at Ashwell Prison in Rutland.

The Prison Officers Association (POA) said the prison service was in "crisis" because more people are being locked up, while costs are slashed in a drive to achieve efficiency savings.

The POA's spokesman, Glyn Travis, said that jails were "bursting at the seams".
