The mayor of Doncaster has announced he will not seek re-election in June because of the row about children's services in the town.
The government has said it is taking control of the department, because concerns have been raised about the deaths of seven children through abuse or neglect in the past five years.
The mayor, Martin Winter said he had taken the decision to "take the heat out" of the situation.
