The UK is experiencing an Arctic blast with snow showers sweeping parts of the country in freezing temperatures. Snow showers have been falling in Scotland and will move down as far as the Midlands on Tuesday. The south of England is likely to experience the showers as sleet and temperatures will not rise above 6C. In Scotland, more than 3,000 households in the Kelso area face several days of below freezing temperatures without gas, after a fault cut supplies. Scotia Gas Networks are supplying hot soup to those affected at a drop-in centre at a high school, where the heating is fuelled by oil, while engineers battle to fix the problem. Sarah Wilmshurst from the BBC Weather centre said: "Winter stays with us for the rest of the week with a risk of ice, a bit of snowfall and fog." Scotland and north east England will see 2-5cm of snowfall. Temperatures have been as low as -10C in parts of Scotland overnight. More snow is forecast coming in from the west early on Thursday morning. The north of England can expect most of the snow, but temperatures should rise as the day goes on and the snow could turn into sleet or rain.
