WWII bomber to fly again
Sally B, the UK's only airworthy B-17 Flying Fortress, is to take to the skies once again. 
The World War II bomber will take-off from the Imperial War Museum's Duxford airfield in Cambridgeshire for the historic flight on Thursday.
Built in 1944, Sally B has been based at Duxford for 25 years, but has been grounded for the last two years for repairs.
B-17's were a common sight in Britain during WWII
They undertook bombing raids from bases in the UK ( East Anglian Film Archive)
US Air Force B-17's dropped 640,036 tons of bombs on European targets during the war
Starring roles in films such as David Puttman's Memphis Belle have kept B-17's in the public eye ever since
The Sally B is the only remaining B-17 in flying condition
A new charity - the B-17 Charitable Trust - has been launched to maintain the aircraft
In between appearances at air shows, the Sally B will remain on display at Duxford.
