It has been ridiculed by some, but for many years Britain won more golds in the Olympic walk events than in other athletics events.
Sadly, the sport has been in decline, and this year Joanne Jackson will be the only British walker in Beijing.
There is hope for the future though as the strict rules on technique have been relaxed for beginners.
