Dr Sabeel Ahmed was remanded in custody

Dr Sabeel Ahmed, 26 and from Liverpool, is accused of not disclosing information that could have helped police arrest a suspected terrorist.

His solicitor, Nadeem Afzal, told the hearing at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court his client intends to plead not guilty to the charge.

The case will be reviewed at the London court next Monday, the judge said.

District Judge Anthony Evans added that there would be a committal hearing on 13 August.

Dr Ahmed, originally from Bangalore in India, was the third person charged in the investigation.

Last month, two cars containing petrol, gas cylinders and nails were discovered in London. A day later a burning car was driven into Glasgow airport.

Dr Ahmed spoke only to give his name, address and to confirm his date of birth during the 20-minute hearing at the magistrates' court.

'Extremely poor' state

He is the brother of Kafeel Ahmed who was detained at Glasgow airport after the burning Jeep was driven into a terminal building.

He suffered burns to 90% of his body and remains in hospital under armed guard.

Karen Jones, prosecuting, told the London court that the injured man was in "an extremely poor physical state".

Dr Sabeel Ahmed holds no tenancy agreement for his home in Ramilies Road, Liverpool, and has not applied to extend his working visa, the court also heard.

On 6 July, Iraqi doctor Bilal Talal Samad Abdullah was charged with conspiracy to cause explosions. He was arrested at Glasgow Airport following the suspected failed car bombing there.

On Saturday, Australian police charged Mohammed Haneef, a 27-year-old Indian doctor, with providing "reckless support" to a terrorist organisation.

He was granted bail of A$10,000 (�4,300) by a judge in Brisbane on Monday but will remain behind bars under Australian immigration law.

Meanwhile, Dr Mohammed Asha, 26, who lives in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, is being held at London's high-security Paddington Green police station.

Two trainee doctors, aged 28 and 25, have been released without charge from London's Paddington Green police station.
