| Saturday, 18 March, 2000, 17:57 GMT Beckham crop unveiled ![]() Ryan Giggs congratulates the newly shorn Beckham Manchester United and England footballer David Beckham has unveiled his new close-cropped haircut - and scored a goal to prove it has not hampered his on-pitch style. The midfielder had kept his new look hidden under a woolly hat during the warm-up for United's away fixture with Leicester City.
His "buzz cut" now bears more than a passing resemblance to United captain Roy Keane's shaven-headed style. Beckham's wife Victoria has already spiced up her hairstyle, adding highlights to her spiky cut. Now barbers can expect an influx of young men demanding a "number one" crop with the clippers.
Tabloid photographs of Becks wearing a sarong sparked a nationwide debate on whether men should wear skirts. Eyebrows were raised when Victoria revealed her husband liked to borrow her skimpy underwear from time to time. But even if these incidents were seen as style faux-pas, the couple have been making in-roads into the fashion elite.
While the couple's wedding - with its specially designed coat of arms and matching thrones - is unlikely to have been to everyone's taste, London's fashion museum, the Victoria and Albert, was "thrilled" just to be allowed to borrow Mrs Beckham's 60,000 gown. |
