A series of events to mark the 25th anniversary of the Falklands conflict has taken place in Southampton. A lunch for Falklands veterans was followed by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque on the QE2, which set sail from the city as a troop ship.
The port of Southampton played a key role in supporting the task force which sailed to the Falkland Islands in 1982.
The QE2 took 5 Infantry Brigade - the Scots Guards, Welsh Guards and Gurkhas - to the South Atlantic.
Southampton Mayor Stephen Barnes-Andrews said: "We are proud to be hosting a series of events to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the conflict, and to honour the islanders and the servicemen and women who fought for their liberation."
A commemoration service has also been held on Ascension Island which was used as a staging post for the task force.
Following the conflict, the British South Atlantic territory's role was described by Ministry of Defence officials as "crucial".
