The Duchess of Cornwall hopes to be "fit enough next week" |
A bout of gastro-enteritis has forced the Duchess of Cornwall to cancel her plans to tour a Christmas pudding factory, Clarence House has revealed. Camilla was to accompany the Prince of Wales to Derbyshire to tour the Matthew Walker site in Heanor.
The couple would have later switched on the festive lights in the nearby village of Ashover. Charles went ahead with the tour alone.
A Clarence House spokesman said the duchess was "very disappointed".
She added: "She has seen a doctor and hopes to be fit enough next week to carry on with her other plans and be out and about.
"She can't make the engagements this afternoon but it's nothing serious."
Village tour
Charles toured shops and spent time at a pub talking to locals before visiting Ashover, recently named Calor Village of the Year.
He spoke to members of the War Widows' Association, of which he is patron, and met a man responsible for training owls for Harry Potter films.
Charles also unveiled a plaque to commemorate both his visit and the village's award and said: "Can I just say what a real pleasure it is to be with you in Ashover today.
"You are such a wonderful example of what a community should be.
"I would like to apologise on behalf of my darling wife for the fact that she was not able to be here today. I am afraid she was not feeling quite right."
